Food Allergy vs. Food Sensitivity- What is the Difference?

A true food allergy causes a histamine response from the body as the body tries to fight off the foreign invader. There is an immediate immune system response. In some cases, an allergic food reaction can be severe or even life-threatening.

In contrast, food sensitivity symptoms can take 4 hours to 96 hours to manifest after digestion making the source difficult to pinpoint. Food sensitivity symptoms usually show up as an auto-immune or inflammatory response in the body upon eating certain foods, sometimes what we consider to be the healthiest foods, or even being exposed to food additives, mold or environmental chemicals.

Inflammation is the root of many chronic diseases and can produce health issues such as:

Gastro- Intestinal issues like irritable bowel or constipation, respiratory like symptoms such as nasal congestion or asthma, migraines, chronic fatigue, arthritis, obesity, eczema, ADD,

fibromyalgia.

There is no cure for food allergies or insensitivities. Even if a food is a “healthy” food it may not be healthy for you.  The only treatment is the avoidance of the food or substance causing the symptoms. Many Doctors give medications to treat the symptoms, but a better remedy would be to remove the cause of these symptoms.

Think about your chronic health issues. It’s very likely that the root cause can be traced to some kind of inflammation in your body.

Wouldn’t you like to know for sure what foods or food additives your body is reacting to?
